all about affirmations- what they are + why they are important

If you have been looking at ways to practice self love or how to become your favorite version of yourself, you have probably been bombarded with all sorts of affirmations. While this is wonderful and I am totally on board with affirmations, there is not a whole lot of information on what they are, how they work, and how to use them.

Today, we are going to go through all of that so that you can get the most out of your affirmation practice!

What are affirmations - affirmations are a manifestation tool that help us to shift our thoughts through short, positive sentences.  They can motivate and encourage us to realize our goals and take action to peruse those goals.

Benefits of using affirmations -

  1. Reciting positive self affirmations can help you develop a positive mindset.

  2. Affirmations encourage you to stay focused on your goals.

  3. They can be a great motivator.

  4. Your self esteem and self worth can increase which positively affects every facet of your life.

  5. Positive self talk is shown to promote positive energy .

Ways to use affirmations -

  • Say them out loud to your self everyday

  • Write them down several times in your journal daily.

  • Put them through out your house so you are reminded of them often

How to incorporate affirmations into your day-

  • Pick 2-5 affirmations to say for an extended period of time.  It is important not to overwhelm yourself with a plethora of affirmations.  Pick 2-5 that really speak to you and what you want to accomplish.

  • Consistency is key with affirmations.  Pick a time everyday that is non negotiable and set that time aside to recite your affirmations.  In order for them to make a difference, it needs to be a daily practice.  An easy way to fit them in maybe to do them right after you brush your teeth or on your morning commute.

  • Make sure that they are easily accessible.  Write them down and put them in a place where you can easily see them.

Where to find positive affirmations you can use?

  • Pinterest is a great place to find affirmations for any feeling or situation. Simply search for the specific affirmations you are looking for and there will be tons of ideas that pop up! Go with what you feel drawn to and what feels right.
