the six pillars of self discovery + why they are important…
Starting a self discovery journey can feel so overwhelming and knowing where to start can almost feel impossible. I know this because when I was starting my journey of getting to know myself, it took me so long to find the right things to focus on. I spent many months focusing on things that didn’t really help me in any way and I became extremely discouraged. It was then that I took a step back and looked at what I was doing. I noticed that I was doing what others said worked for them and not paying attention to if that was something that worked for ME. When I started paying attention to what was working for me and developing my own routines/strategies, everything started to click into place.
When I was in the midst of my self discovery journey, I noticed that everything that I was doing that seemed to be helping me connect to myself on the deepest level fell into distinct categories. These different areas really led me to knowing and trusting myself in such a profound way and are what I believe to be the true foundations of Self Discovery. Focusing on these different categories individually and really diving deep into each subject allowed me to become self aware in a way that I never thought was possible and I want to help you achieve that as well.
With starting the Lovely Self Co., I wanted to develop a self discovery pathway that helps you do just that; start to understand and implement the practices, reflections, and routines that work for YOU and be the designer of your journey with just a bit of help and encouragement from myself.
The 6 pillars of self discovery layout what you need to focus on to start to know yourself fully and love yourself deeply. Each pillar represents a different area of self discovery that challenges what you thought you knew about yourself, helps you develop a new understanding of yourself, and provides a framework to enhance your self discovery journey in that particular area.
The 6 pillars of self discovery:
Self Awareness + inventory -
Taking the time to become acutely aware of all aspects of yourself and taking an inventory of your self, life, shadow, body intelligence, masks, and fears is an extremely beneficial practice that can be very helpful and enlightening in getting to know yourself on the deepest level. It will also help you uncover things that you may want to change or work on.
Self Acceptance -
Self acceptance is the cornerstone to truly understanding yourself. It is vital to your self discovery journey. In order to become the person you want to be, you have to accept and acknowledge who you already are.
Confidence + Trust -
Developing the confidence + trust within yourself to fully show up as your truest + authentically best version of yourself. When you have learned to trust yourself, you will most likely be able to lean into what you really want.
Self Identity + Vision -
Learning how to take care of yourself in the best way possible is the best way to support yourself in life. Knowing what works for you, what doesn’t, and how to implement self-care into your daily life is essential to your self discovery path.
Boundaries -
Boundaries are THE MOST IMPORTANT THING you will learn about and implement in your path to true self discovery. They help you discover what you are willing to accept and help you voice what you need which is the backbone of an empowered woman.
Self-Care -
Learning how to take care of yourself in the best way possible is the best way to support yourself in life. Knowing what works for you, what doesn’t, and how to implement self-care into your daily life is essential to your self discovery path.
How to Start -
Do your own research -
I would suggest going in the order suggested above and just start researching each topic and leaning into what resonates and feels right to you. Pinterest is a great place to find wonderful information and resources for each topic. It is also a great place to organize and save the information that you find and just start to work through the practices and information you find. I would also suggest focusing on one pillar at a time and taking your time working through the information you find.
Therapy -
Having a supportive person that can help you through this level of self inquiry is always a good idea if that is available to you. You can simply say that you need help with a certain topic and lean into the advice given to start to work through that topic.
